Spring classes ended on 5/14 and my summer class started on 5/15. Now, some may have the sad face but for me I was happy because I had the privilege to teach one of my favorite courses. Working With Aging Adults covers a population that I enjoy as well as teaching learners various skills to use while in practice. This class was offered online and included platforms outside of the LMS such as Google Communities, PowerPoint, Zoom, Voice Thread, YouTube and more. one of the large assignments included learners interviewing an aging adult (friend/family member/co-worker) then to ask various interview questions that were population-appropriate. After students conducted the interview, they had to develop a presentation of the responses with photos included and to present the responses to the class and myself. They did a spectacular job and I really appreciated their willingness to work hard to learn the platforms that were chosen.
Towards the end of the semester, students were sending messages of thanks for teaching them skills to use with aging adult as well as technical skills to advocate and to help with resources. After the one bad semester, I needed emails with those messages. I think that the changes made to the class, the topic and introducing various platforms and allowing them to select their choice took this course to another level.
Above all, Summer 2018 was awesome!
